Air India CEO resignation: Campbell Wilson steps down as Tata Group begins search for successor amid airline transformation and modernization efforts.

On Tuesday, Air India confirmed that the Air India CEO steps down. Campbell Wilson, who was Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director, has resigned. In an official statement, the Tata Group Air India said that a committee has been formed to find a successor soon.
A storied airline with close to a century of service history, Air India has been stumbling through its change from state ownership to Tata Group control, which was among the aviation initiates in the country. At present, the Air India Group operates two airline brands - Air India Express and full-service Air India.
Born and brought up in New Zealand, Wilson took over in 2022 following the airline's privatization. The Campbell Wilson resignation was submitted before the end of his five-year term.
During his term, efforts to modernise the fleet, get better service standards and mix operations have faced headwinds. It also adds to the supply chain disruptions, aircraft delivery delays, and even increases charges.
Campbell Wilson's statement in an internal letter to employees adds, "It (Air India) has seen the complete modernisation of systems, the launch of new physical products, and deployment of elevated service standards on ground and in the air, as well as 100 additional aircraft added to the fleet".
He also added, "The full interior refit of legacy narrowbody aircraft has all but been completed, with deliveries of widebody aircraft with new custom-designed interiors now underway".
In the closing statement he added 'Jai Hind', "It has been a true honour to play a small part in this latest chapter of Air India's long history, and I will continue to be an enthusiastic supporter of this wonderful organization, and of all of you, as this storied airline - the Maharajah - cements itself as a truly world class, global airline with an Indian heart".
